This notice explains how Legal Verge ("Legal Verge", "we", "us") collects and uses personal data when you visit thelegalverge.com or get in touch with us through it, and the rights you have over that data.

Who we are

Legal Verge is a marketing consultancy that works with law firms. We are based at Rua São José 125, São Victor, Braga, Portugal, and we are the controller of the personal data described in this notice.

If you have any questions about this notice or how we use your data, email us at hello@thelegalverge.com.

This notice covers our website and enquiries made through it. Personal data we handle when providing services to clients is covered by the terms of our engagement with each client.

The personal data we collect

  • When you send an enquiry: your name, firm name, email address, phone number (optional), the service you are interested in and the content of your message.
  • When you email us directly: your email address, any contact details in your signature and the content of your correspondence.
  • When you visit the website: our hosting provider automatically processes technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested and the date and time of the request.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, confidential information about legal matters or special category data (for example, information about health) through the website.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not set cookies and does not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools. Fonts and other site files are served from our own domain rather than loaded from third parties.

If we introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies in future, we will update this notice and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

How we use your data and our lawful bases

  • To respond to your enquiry and arrange a conversation. We rely on our legitimate interests in responding to business enquiries and, where you are asking about our services, on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To run, secure and improve the website. We rely on our legitimate interests in keeping the site available, secure and working properly.
  • To comply with our legal obligations, for example keeping business records or responding to lawful requests from authorities.

We will not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing emails without your agreement, and we do not sell personal data.

Who we share your data with

We share personal data only with service providers who help us run the website and our business, and only as far as they need it:

  • Vercel Inc., which hosts the website and processes technical data about visits.
  • Web3Forms, which processes contact form submissions and delivers them to our inbox.
  • Our email service provider, which stores the enquiries and emails we receive.

We may also share personal data with professional advisers, or with regulators, courts or authorities where the law requires it.

International transfers

Some of our service providers, including Vercel, are based in or process data in countries outside the UK and the European Economic Area, such as the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we rely on recognised safeguards, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses approved for that purpose.

How long we keep your data

  • Enquiries and correspondence that do not lead to an engagement are kept for up to 24 months after our last contact, then deleted.
  • If you become a client, we keep relevant correspondence for as long as set out in our engagement terms and as required for legal, accounting and tax purposes.
  • Technical data processed by our hosting provider is kept for a limited period in line with that provider's log retention.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • ask us to delete your data
  • ask us to restrict how we use your data
  • object to our use of your data where we rely on legitimate interests
  • receive your data in a portable format, where applicable
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@thelegalverge.com. We will respond within one month. There is no charge in most cases.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we use your data, please contact us first so that we can try to put things right.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Portugal, this is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt). In the UK, it is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Security

The website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and access to enquiries and correspondence is limited to the people at Legal Verge who need it to respond. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please avoid sending sensitive information through the website.
